Dear Herbert in Toronto Participants:

We are happy to announce registration and lodging for the Seventh Triennial Conference of the George Herbert Society, “George Herbert and the Americas.” Registration is payable by 1 May 2025 online or by check. Because Trinity College requires the GHS to collect all lodging and meal fees, all amounts shown below are in USD rather than CAD

Standard Conference Lodging and Breakfast Rates for 6/18-22/25 (four nights, 6/18 check-in, 6/22 check-out): The GHS has reserved a block of dormitory rooms in Trinity College, very close to the college’s meeting venues, with single and double rooms available. Single room rates, including service fees, are $60 per night, while double room rates, including service fees, are $35 per person per night, or $65 per night for one person in a double room. None of these rooms is en suite, instead sharing a group shower/bathroom down the corridor, and none is handicapped accessible. For daily breakfast in the college dining hall, a daily breakfast fee of $15 can be added. See below for full cost breakdown.

Other Nearby Lodging: For those needing handicapped accessible lodging or desiring full hotel features, the college suggests three nearby hotels:

St. George (Yorkville—walking distance)

Park Hyatt (Yorkville—walking distance)

Chestnut Residence (U. of Toronto/Downtown Toronto—10-minute drive)

Airbnb and other room-sharing services also do business in Toronto. Please note that there is no public parking within Trinity College, and no free parking on the University Campus.

Program: We are assembling a four-day program, available in February of 2025.

The conference will begin on the morning of Thursday 19 June 2025 and will run through the morning of Sunday 22 June, with plenaries and paper panels meeting mainly in Trinity College venues, but some activities in other nearby colleges and institutions of the University of Toronto, including a likely display of rare materials held in college/university libraries.

The flat registration fee includes all plenaries and panels, at least one concert and an optional Sunday eucharist in the Trinity College Chapel, a poetry reading, visits to archives, two drinks receptions, and generous refreshments throughout. Other activities and excursions may be added at a later date.

The only optional meals for which there are additional costs are the Friday evening gala dinner at Trinity and daily breakfast in the Trinity dining hall. As Trinity College is situated at the heart of Toronto, closely adjacent to many great Canadian cultural institutions, as well as restaurants, pubs, and eateries, we’ll leave you plenty of opportunities to seek out your own pleasures and forage happily for many meals.

Modest GHS travel bursaries are available, upon application, for students and independent scholars. For details, please see https://georgeherbertsociety.org/ghs-fund-application-instructions/

We very much look forward to welcoming you to Toronto in June, truly the loveliest and longest days of the year!
